An
interview With God
I
dreamed that I had an interview with God.
"Come
in", God said, "So you would like to
interview me?"
"If
you have time", I said. God smiled and
replied,"My time is eternity and is enough
to do everything. What questions would you like
to ask me?"
"What
surprises you most about us human beings?"
God
answered, "That you get bored of being
children, and in a rush to grow up, and then long
to be children again. That you loose your health
to make money and then loose your money to
restore your health. That by thinking anxiously
about the future, you forget the present, such
that you live neither for the present nor the
future. That you live as if you will never die,
and you die as if you never lived"
God's
hands took mine and we were silent for a while
and then I asked," As a parent, what are
some of life's lessons that you want us, your
children to learn?"
God
replied with a smile, "To learn that you
cannot make anyone love you. What you can do is
to let yourself be loved. To learn that what is
most valuable is not what you have in your life,
but whom you have in your life. To learn that it
is not good to compare yourself to others. All
will be judged individually on their own merits,
not as a group on a comparison basis! To learn
that a rich person is not the one who has the
most, but is one who needs the least"
God
continued, "To learn that it only takes a
few seconds to open profound wounds in people you
love, and that ittakes many years to heal them.
To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness. To
learn that there are individuals who love you
dearly, but simply do not know how to express or
show their feelings. To learn that money can buy
anything except true happiness. To learn that two
people can look at the same thing and see
differently, yet both can be correct. To learn
that true friends are those who know everything
about yours and still like you. To learn that it
is not always enough that you are forgiven by
others, but that you can forgive yourself. To
learn that all creatures on the planet are your
sisters and brothers and isn't it about time to
start treating them with respect and honour".
I
sat there for a while in awe. I thanked God for
this time together.
God
replied, "You're welcome, I'm here twenty-four
hours a day. All you have to do is ask. I will
listen."
People
may forget what you said, People may forget what
you did, but people will never forget how you
made them feel!
